About the role

Catlins Hotel is seeking a skilled Cook to join our kitchen team on a casual basis. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic hospitality environment in Owaka, Otago, where you will prepare high-quality meals for our guests and contribute to exceptional dining experiences. What you'll be doing

• Preparing and cooking a variety of dishes according to established recipes and quality standards

• Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards in the kitchen, including proper food storage and handling

• Managing food preparation stations and ensuring all ingredients are fresh and properly organised

• Plating dishes to presentation standards and ensuring timely delivery to service

• Monitoring stock levels and communicating any shortages to management

• Working collaboratively with other kitchen staff to ensure smooth service during busy periods

• Following all food safety regulations and health and safety protocols

• Responding to customer feedback and making adjustments to meet dining requirements

What we're looking for

• Proven experience working as a cook in a hospitality or restaurant setting

• Knowledge of food preparation techniques, cooking methods and kitchen safety procedures

• Understanding of food hygiene and health and safety regulations

• Ability to work efficiently under pressure during busy service periods

• Strong organisational and time management skills

• Good communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team

• Flexibility and adaptability to changing menus and service requirements

• A genuine passion for delivering quality food and exceptional customer service

• Relevant qualifications in culinary arts or food preparation are advantageous
